Vision: Distinguished Directorate pursuing entrepreneur in partnership with various sectors to control markets for the benefit of the consumer and trader.
Mission: To control business institutions to ensure their commitment to the provisions of Industry and Trade Law in force, as well as enhance partnership with different sectors by implementing the Directorate’s tasks and duties.
Functions:
Markets and Supply Control Directorate performs the following functions and tasks:
- Control business establishments to ensure their compliance with the provisions of Industry and Trade Law in force.
- Monitor commodities prices and quantities indicators, as well as conducting the required studies.
- Issue approvals to promotional campaigns and clearance processes.
- Supervise prize drawings for promotional campaigns and release its securities.
- Receive and deal with consumers complaints in accordance with the provisions of Industry and Trade Law.
- Prepare pre-emergency plans to deal with different circumstances.
Departments:
Markets Department: This Department has the following functions and duties:
- Control business institutions to ensure their compliance with the Industry and Trade law No. 18/1998 and legislation emanating from it.
- Issue violations against institutions breaching the provisions of Industry and Trade law, and transfer them to the competent court.
- Receive and deal with different sectors’ complaints related to Industry and Trade Law No. 18/1998 and its regulations.
- Monitor price indicators for basic supply and strategic commodities.
- Prepare pre-emergency plans to deal with different circumstances.
Studies Department: This Department has the following functions and duties:
- Study price indicators for basic, supply, and strategic commodities, and prepare the necessary recommendations.
- Monitoring and update basic goods inventory listed on the early warning programme.
- Prepare the needed reports and studies.
- Preparing the needed recommendations for granting export license for food items t listed on the early warning programme.
- Coordination with relevant authorities to obtain the necessary information and data.
Communication and guidance Department:
This Department has the following functions and duties:
- Coordinate with various sectors to conduct guidance and awareness-raising campaigns on market control.
- Prepare e of awareness and guidance plan, including (SMS) messages.
- Coordinate and contact with different sectors to hold forums and meetings regarding the Directorate's duties and orientations.
Promotion and prizes Department: This Department takes the following functions and duties:
- Issuing approvals needed for prizes promotional campaigns, and clearances.
- Supervise drawing prizes processes.
- Prepare the needed recommendations to release securities related to drawing prizes of promotional campaigns.
- Control business institutions to ensure their compliance with the approvals, promotion campaigns, offers, and sales in accordance with regulations in force.
Market Control General Policy:
The general policy of Markets and Supply Control Directorate is based on activating the role of the private sector and civil society institutions to cope with the Ministry's policy aiming at liberalizing goods and service markets, and regulating the freedom of market mechanisms to ensure rights and duties of consumers and business institutions.
The Directorate is seeking to activate this policy through of the following set of frameworks:
• Periodic meetings of the private sector, trade unions and civil society institutions.
• Receiving and dealing with citizens’ complaints.
• Morning and evening monitoring field rounds that cover all regions of the kingdom.
• Conducting awareness-raising and guidance campaigns with all relevant sectors.
• Activating the genuine partnership with the public and private sectors and civil society institutions.
